KTM Adventure Wheels: Kineo Guide for 790, 890 & 690 Enduro R
What KTM riders should know about 21/18 sizing, model-specific fitment, true tubeless construction and Kineo customization.

Choosing KTM Adventure wheels is not simply a matter of finding a 21-inch front and an 18-inch rear. The 690 Enduro R, 790 Adventure and 890 Adventure R may share a similar wheel layout, but they are different motorcycles with different wheel widths, chassis and hardware requirements.
Why Consider KTM Adventure Wheels from Kineo?
Kineo uses a purpose-built tubeless spoked construction designed to keep the sealed tyre chamber separate from the spoke attachment points. On many traditional wire-spoked wheels, the spoke nipples pass through the rim bed. Because those openings interrupt the area that needs to hold air, an inner tube or another sealing system is normally required.
Kineo takes a different approach. Its spoke arrangement keeps the spoke nipples outside the sealed tyre chamber, allowing the wheel to operate as a true tubeless design without depending on a conventional inner tube or a tape-based conversion.
CNC Aluminium Rim
CNC-machined 7000-grade aluminium rims form the main wheel structure.
Forged Hub
Forged aluminium hubs form the centre of the model-specific wheel assembly.
Stainless Spokes
Stainless-steel spokes complete the distinctive Kineo wire-spoked construction.
For riders who want the mechanical appearance of a wire-spoked wheel together with modern tubeless tyre use, this construction is one of the main reasons to consider Kineo KTM Adventure wheels.
KTM Adventure Wheels: Why 21/18 Does Not Mean the Same Fitment
The 690, 790 and 890 platforms provide a useful example of why wheel diameter alone is not enough. All three can use a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear layout, but their complete wheel specifications are not identical.
KTM officially identifies this motorcycle as the 690 Enduro R, not the 690 Adventure. The official model name should be used when confirming fitment.
The current 790 Adventure specification already uses tubeless aluminium spoked wheels, so a Kineo installation should not automatically be described as a tubeless conversion.
The current 890 Adventure R also uses a tubeless spoked wheel arrangement. Exact model and production year still need to be confirmed before an aftermarket wheelset is prepared.
Wheel width, braking hardware, ABS components, bearings, spacers and other interfaces still depend on the exact motorcycle.
Fitment Comes Before Wheel Diameter
Correct KTM Adventure wheels need to work with much more than the tyre. A custom wheel is part of a complete system that has to match the motorcycle around it.
Build Around the Exact Motorcycle
- Exact motorcycle model
- Production year
- Standard, R or other version
- Front and rear wheel dimensions
- Brake disc positioning
- ABS-related components
- Bearings and spacers
- Sprocket and rear-wheel arrangement
- Fork or suspension modifications
- Previous wheel conversions
21/18 describes the wheel diameter — not the complete fitment.
For KineoShop orders, the safest approach is straightforward: identify the official KTM model first, confirm the production year and version, and then establish the correct wheel configuration.
What Does a 21/18 Setup Mean for Adventure Riding?
A 21-inch front and 18-inch rear combination is widely used on adventure and off-road-oriented motorcycles because it supports tyre sizes commonly developed for mixed-surface and off-road use.
Wheel diameter, however, does not determine the riding character of the motorcycle by itself. Rim width, tyre construction, suspension, load, tyre pressure and the motorcycle's overall design all influence the final result.
For that reason, choosing KTM Adventure wheels should begin with the motorcycle's confirmed specification and the rider's intended use. A bike used mainly for long-distance road touring may have different tyre priorities from one regularly used on gravel or difficult off-road terrain.
Some KTM Models Already Use Tubeless Spoked Wheels
Not every KTM rider considering Kineo is starting with a tube-type wheel. That distinction is important when comparing the original motorcycle with an aftermarket wheelset.
Already Tubeless on Some Models
A Different Reason to Choose the Wheel
- True tubeless spoke construction
- Model-specific wheel preparation
- Replacement or custom wheelset
- Individual rim, hub, spoke and nipple finishes
On motorcycles already equipped with factory tubeless spoked wheels, the reason to choose Kineo may instead be construction, customization, replacement requirements or a specific wheel build.
Customizing KTM Adventure Wheels
Once the correct application has been confirmed, customization becomes one of the most visible parts of the Kineo system. Rims, hubs, spokes and nipples can be configured separately, allowing KTM Adventure wheels to follow either a restrained factory-inspired appearance or a more individual custom direction.
Rim
The rim creates the main visual outline of the wheel and can remain understated or become a stronger design element.
Hub
Hub colour can stay close to the motorcycle's original appearance or create a stronger central contrast.
Spokes
Spoke finish changes how strongly the wire structure stands out against the rim, tyre and surrounding motorcycle components.
Nipples
Nipple colour provides a smaller accent and works best when it repeats a detail already used elsewhere on the bike.
Black rims with dark hubs can keep the wheel visually integrated with the motorcycle, while contrasting hubs or nipples can create a more individual build. The most convincing combinations normally repeat colours already present on the motorcycle rather than adding unrelated accents.
Are Kineo KTM Adventure Wheels Right for Every Rider?
Not necessarily. KTM already offers modern tubeless spoked systems on motorcycles such as the 790 Adventure and 890 Adventure R, so an aftermarket wheelset should have a clear purpose.
Kineo KTM Adventure wheels are most relevant for riders looking for this combination of purpose-built construction, correct motorcycle application and individual visual configuration.
